The Best Is Yet To Come – Including Parking

Sunday was incredible, more than I imagined and exceeding my expectations. How can I adequately say thanks to you and God for what we experienced at the end of a long voyage? The best part is that Sunday also marked the beginning of a new journey; one filled with countless stories of life change as we all “Stand by the Door” (See the poem I read Sunday in its entirety also in this week’s Pointer).

Another long journey we had was getting in and out of the parking lot Sunday. The good news: a lot of pre-planning kept it from being much worse. Our Parking Team was amazing. Thank them whenever you see them. They really stepped up Sunday! And you were great too for being so willing to park off-road. The challenge: we can do better in the weeks to come – and we will.

There were several reasons for our parking problems Sunday:

  • We have fewer streets and driveways to enter/exit from. We can’t change that.
  • We meet code for parking but still need more spaces for high attendance days like Sunday. We’ll add space when we can afford it. For now, other changes will help considerably.
  • Pipeline Construction to the west and the traffic light to the east at Highways 332 and 2004 backed up traffic for long periods of time. We’re talking to TxDot about adjusting the light. It could be a slow process. Pray.
  • We couldn’t empty the lots from the first service quickly enough to park folks for the second service. The result was 80+ unused paved spaces during the second service. The solution – more time between services. We’ll announce new times this weekend which will take effect beginning the next Sunday, August 11.
  • West of the Brazos folks couldn’t get back to the West Driveway to exit. We suggest you park in either the gravel lot to the right as you come in, or just past that off the pavement to the right of the driveway and building. Tell the Parking Team volunteer you’re from West of the Brazos as you’re driving in. As you leave all cars in those areas will be directed back out the West Driveway.
  • Not enough handicapped spaces. We’ll have more this weekend.

A lot of subtle changes will be made this week that will combine to have a big impact. Here are a few things you can do. Come in one vehicle per family. Carpool to church. Continue to go where you’re directed. High five the Parking Team folks – they’re volunteers just like you.

Live bold,

Greg
